thoughts on grief September roundup and October book tour

thoughts on grief book cover design by Zuchal Rosyidin.
Greetings,
There are a few new faces since I last wrote, and I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Princess and I’m the author of thoughts on grief (Curious Monarch Press). I am a writer, but I have also worked in communications and journalism – anything with words, it seems. I’m happy to have you follow this journey. thoughts on grief has been out for a while now and it is quickly building momentum; the community, which I am ever so grateful for, has been wonderful in extending its reach.
Next week, Epoch Comics will host me for an author’s reading on Saturday 10 October at 7pm GMT. I would be thrilled to have you join – UK-based attendees will have a chance to get a copy of the novelette. To register, simply use the Google Forms link below:

Last month in London, I did some promotional work for thoughts on grief. At the S.I.T. 26 conference in Wembley Park, I met with other like-minded creatives from streaming, marketing, film, and beyond. It was an invigorating environment to be in, and I felt right at home. People received copies of the novelette, and I was touched to have their support – including Call of Duty and IRL (In Real Life) streamer Ysabella Grace of Streamer U. I also met with Abena Serwaa, Editor-in-Chief of AKADi Magazine, to give her copies of my novelette to share with interested colleagues. She previously interviewed me for the book club and will be releasing a book review, which, based on our discussions, I imagine will be favourable. I am humbled that people have been so receptive to the book, and that many have connected with the profound depth of acute sibling loss.
The following week, I was at Beyond the Screen: Black Talent, Anime and the Future of Storytelling at BFI Southbank, where I gave panellists a copy of the novelette. This included Raquel Harris (formerly of TheWrap and Forbes), Crunchyroll Brand Manager and The Anime Effect co-host LeAlec Murray, and rapper and manga author Shao Dow.

I also managed to squeeze in a photoshoot at Holland Mews, and I’ll share one of the photos below.

To round off September, I took part in an Author’s Showcase at the Civic Centre Resource Library in Vaughan, Ontario. It was a bit of a full-circle moment, as I was there almost a decade ago to do a story as a former child in care and took photos there. At the showcase, I was featured alongside three other authors. There were two children’s books and one book by a 10-year-old author. A few people bravely shared their own stories of loss, while others were curious about the writing and book production process. There was a giveaway for a signed copy of thoughts on grief, and after a draw, Jennifer was the winner.

Thanks for all the support. I want to say this didn’t happen overnight; there were many mornings before the break of dawn spent editing, scheduling meetings with a graphic designer based overseas, and lonely evenings reviewing drafts. It was certainly a lot of work, but also thoroughly rewarding and I am ready to see the fruit of that labour. I am ready to do more mingling now that the book is out, excited to meet many of you, and truly humbled by the support.
Many thanks for following and reading,
Princess
What is thoughts on grief about?
thoughts on grief is my first book, a novelette that marks the years since my brother’s passing. It is a series of essays and short prose that highlights the ways my brother has influenced me, and my own unique journey with grief. My journey is just a drop amongst countless others experiencing grief, and no two journeys are the same.
